Arches National Park - Stargazing the Milky Way

Arches National Park has always been on our bucket list, so a dream came true, when we finally visited. Staying in Moab was just perfect, as we were just ten minutes away from the park entrance.

This beautiful place definitely made it to the list of our favorite National Parks! Our days were filled with hiking with breathtaking views that left us in awe, and watching beautiful sunsets. Our highlight was our stargazing experience, and shooting the Milky Way! We are coming back for sure, as this place is one of our favorites!

Day 1 - The first evening

Coming from our trip to Telluride, we spent the afternoon in Moab in order to grab a bite, and relaxed a bit in the hotel. In the evening, we entered Arches National Park for the first time and fell in love immediately! We didn’t really have a plan where to go, we just drove along the road, and stopped at different spots. It was a perfect timing, as it was golden hour, and the light was so beautiful! The rock formations themselves are incredible to watch, but this golden shine was just another level!

Finally, our way led us to the Window Arches, where we soaked in the incredible scenery. Our favorite spot was sitting under the South Window Arch and just watching the sun go down slowly.

Day 2 - Hiking and stargazing

In the morning, we started our day with a hike to the infamous Delicate Arch. Starting at the Wolfe Ranch, it was a 3 mile out-and-back hike through a beautiful desertic landscape. As we went in July, it was already were hot around 9 am, so we brought plenty of water. Arriving at the Delicate Arch, there was a line in order to take a picture under this giant rock, so we had a little time to relax. The hike was definitely worth it, it was so incredible to witness such natural beauty! After our hike, it was already above 110 degrees, so we decided to spend the day in Moab, in order to go window shopping, and flee from the unyielding heat.

We returned in the evening, in order to catch the sunset again. This time, we were looking for a different spot, and tried different places, such as Sand Dune Arch, Panorama Point, or Salt Valley Overlook. They were all very beautiful, but nothing compared to the previous evening. We finally decided to head to the Window Arches again, but this time, we enjoyed the sunset from the side of the road, next to Garden of Eden.

After, we drove to the Window Arches, where we waited until it was completely dark. The later it got, the more stars we were able to spot on the nightsky. It was incredible beautiful, as we have never seen so many stars in this cloud- and moonless sky. At around 11 pm, we were finally able to spot the Milky Way with our own eyes! It was such a perfect and beautiful night and we have the best memories of it! So far, this has been an absolute highlight of all our journeys! So, if you’re interested in stargazing, this is the right spot for you!

Day 3 - The last morning

After our breakfast, we had a couple of hours until we had to check-out of our hotel. As we were staying rally close to the park entrance, we used that time to hike to the Double O Arch via the Devil’s Garden Trail, coming across the Landscape Arch.

It was a great hike through the sandy terrain, which also included some rock climbing. We only wished, we had more time to hike the full loop to see all the other Arches, as the Dark Angel Arch, the Private Arch, the Black Cave Arch, and many more.

Our journey to the Arches National Park is one of our favorites! This beautiful landscape left us simply in awe, and there is still so much more to see for us! At day, or at night, this place is absolutely stunning, and we think that everybody needs to come and visit!
