Unwinding on Mallorca:

A Peaceful Escape to the Balearic Island

Why visiting Mallorca?

Known for its stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, charming mountain villages, and vibrant Mediterranean culture, the Balearic Island Mallorca offers something for everyone! Being particularly famous for being a party island, we chose to explore the calm, and beautiful sides of Mallorca.

In this blog we share insights about our five-day itinerary to inspire, and help you to make the most out of your next trip!

Our 5-day itinerary:

Day 1: Exporing the East Coast

  • We started our first day catching the sunrise at the viewpoint "Es Pontàs".

Es Pontàs is a stunning natural rock arch located off the southeast coast of Mallorca, near the town of Santanyí. Carved by the sea, this impressive limestone formation rises dramatically from the water. It's one of Mallorca's iconic coastal landmarks, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.

  • Afer enjoying breakfast in our hotel in Cala d'Or, we got ready for our beach day.

The east coast offers many magnificent bays with turquoise water, and beautiful sandy beaches. Surrounded by cliffs, the bays are perfect for cliff jumping.

It was a tough decision, but we finally decided to go to "Caló des Moro", which was definitely a great choice!

There was a spacious, free parking lot, which is called "Parking Cala Llombards y Cala S'Almunia" on google Maps, approx. 800 meters away. As this is a quite popular beach, we would not recommend trying to find a parking lot closer to the beach on the side of the road, as there are walking so many people you have to take care about.

Make sure to bring water shoes, and enough water and snacks to fully enjoy your stay.

  • In the afternoon, we drove north to Porto Cristo to explore the famous Drach Caves (Cuevas del Drach).

Visiting the Drach Caves in Mallorca was a must-see experience, offering a glimpse into one of the island's most remarkable natural wonders. These stunning limestone caves are famous for their vast underground chambers and the breathtaking Lake Martel, one of the largest underground lakes in the world.

We enjoyed a guided tour through the illuminated caverns, which was completed with a wonderful live classical music performance and a boat ride on the underground lake.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance, with prices typically around €16-€18 for adults. We recommend booking online and in advance, as it's cheaper and the time slots are limited.

The tour lasted about an hour and the concert was such a highlight!

  • As we stayed on the east coast, there was no spot for watching the sunset. However we really enjoyed golden hour, and those beautiful pink colors of the sky.

We drove up to Faro de Capdepera, which is a lighthouse, offering breathtaking views of the rugged coastline. The lighthouse stands atop cliffs with panoramic vistas extending to the nearby island of Menorca on clear days.

It was an ideal spot for a scenic stroll and to catch the sunset. Though the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, the surrounding area was perfect for ending our day with the tranquil atmosphere.

Day 2: Exploring the North Coast

  • We started this rainy day in Cala d'Or and enjoyed breakfast after hitting the hotel gym.

As we started our tour to the northern part of the Island, dark clouds gathered on the sky, and heavy rain came down. Our plan was to spend some time at the gorgeous beach "Playa de Muro", but that did not work out for us. So, we decided to skip the beach and explore the town of Alcúdia.

It was a different but equally charming experience. The town’s well-preserved medieval walls and cobblestone streets came alive with history, making it a perfect destination for exploring cultural gems like the ancient Roman ruins of Pollentia and the town’s historic churches.

We escaped the rain by enjoying a nice coffee, and Empanadas in one of the local restaurants that served traditional Mallorcan cuisine.

  • Luckily, the rain had stopped by noon, so we decided to head further north to explore "Es Colomer", a stunning viewpoint on Mallorca's northern coast,. It offered breathtaking panoramic views of the rugged Serra de Tramuntana mountains and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Located near the Formentor Peninsula, this popular spot is accessible by car and provides a short, scenic walk to the viewing platform.

However, there were lots and lots of cyclists, which made it difficult to drive up the serpentines. We could only move slowly in order to drive safely. If you're unsure, you can also move around by bus.

For us, it was a highlight as the views were amazing!

  • Adterwards, we drove down to "Platja de Formentor", one of Mallorca's most beautiful beaches, in our opinion. It has white sand and crystal-clear, turquoise waters. The beach offers a peaceful escape and stunning views across the bay. The vivid colors of the water create a postcard-perfect setting, ideal for swimming or relaxing in the sun. However, parking can be limited, so we suggest coming as early as possible.

Day 3: Exploring the South East Coast

  • On the third morning, we caught the perfect sunrise at "Sa Cova Foradada".

Located on the east coast of Mallorca, this natural rock arch features a large hole carved by the sea, framing the lighthouse in a unique way. As the first light of day spilled through the iconic arch, the sky transformed into beautiful colours.

The peaceful, secluded setting and dramatic cliffs made it an ideal spot for our photography.

  • After returning to our hotel and having breakfast, we headed to Cala Figuera, a charming fishing village ,which is known for its picturesque harbor and tranquil atmosphere.

The village’s traditional whitewashed houses and colorful fishing boats created a postcard-perfect setting. Unlike many of Mallorca’s tourist-heavy beaches, Cala Figuera offered a peaceful escape, where we enjoyed strolling along the port, and grabed some coffee.

Cala Figuera was a highlight, and we definetely recommend coming here!

Day 4: Journey to Port de Sóller

  • As we stayed in Cala d'Or, we had a few options of routes to get to the west coast. We decided to take the route from Cala d'Or to Port de Sóller, bypassing Palma and traveling through the heart of Mallorca.

We had a scenic journey through the island's charming countryside and lesser-known villages.

Our journey concluded with a picturesque drive through the Tramuntana Mountains, which offered spectacular views!

However, driving in the mountains again was rather difficult due passing all those cyclists on the serpentines. So be prepared to drive very careful and slowly.

  • As the sun began to set over Port de Sóller, we decided to take a walk along the waterfront. The tram, which connects the port to the town of Sóller, was a fun sight and added a unique touch to the evening.

As the sun set behind the mountains, we took a moment to enjoy the view. The scene was beautiful, with the vibrant colors of the sunset reflecting on the water. It was a perfect way to end our day in Port de Sóller, feeling really relaxed.

We truly loved the vibe and watching hikers returning from their adventures. We would have loved to hike as well, but due to injury, we have to put it onto our bucket list for the next time. If you're a mountain lover just as we are, Port de Sóller is the place to stay!

Day 5: Exploring mountain villages

  • We got up early to spend the morning in Deià, soaking up the village's charming atmosphere. The narrow streets were lined with beautiful stone houses, and we admired the vibrant flowers that adorned them as we strolled through.

As Deià is located on the west coast, there was not a sunrise to catch, but the morning sun still created a beautiful atmosphere. We would have loved to stay longer, but since this was the day of our departure, we had to hurry a bit.

  • After enjoying breakfast in our beautiful hotel, we got ready and checked-out.

We set off for Valldemossa, eager to explore one of Mallorca's most charming villages. As we arrived, we were immediately captivated by the narrow, cobblestone streets lined with beautiful stone buildings adorned with vibrant flowers. The sun was shining, making the colors pop even more.

After wandering through the picturesque streets, we stumbled upon a small ice cream shop with a tempting array of flavors. We couldn’t resist stopping for a treat, so we chose a scoop of creamy gelato.

Valldemossa was one of our favorite places, and we would love to come back! We recommend visiting as early as possible, as this is a hot spot for may tourists!

Please let us know, if you have any questions regarding our trip to the beautiful island of Mallorca.
